InfoAs a youth, Councilman Robert J. White, III received the opportunity to better himself; and, today, he is working diligently to offer the same advantages to all of Ward 2, children and senior citizens alike. White, a life-long resident of Ward 2, attended the Cleveland public school system until he was accepted at Cushing Academy in Asburnham, Massachusetts through the "A Better Chance Scholarship Program" (ABC). This opportunity led to White's future in public service. Representing Cleveland's Union-Miles and Turney neighborhoods, White's constituency is diverse in age and opportunities and he is up to the challenge of working for so many. To keep the children of Ward 2 on the right path, White is working with the director of the YMCA to develop programs for the community's youth and to assist in offsetting the cost of membership. White has also worked hard during his tenure to make the golden years as enjoyable as possible for the seniors in Ward 2. He has initiated snow removal and grass cutting programs for seniors and the physically challenged through the Union Miles Development Corporation (UMDC).

Since joining Cleveland City Council, White has worked with the UMDC, which is flourishing. One of their successful accomplishments is the Reading Room for the children of Ward 2. Because of the positive response to the Reading Room in the community, the Cleveland Public Library is considering a satellite branch for the community.

In addition to improving the quality of life for all of Ward 2's residents, White is working to ensure that community and economic development improve Ward 2 as well. For example, White has worked to make the Mill Creek housing development, a project that began prior to his term of service, a reality. Mill Creek has 217 market rate homes and prompted the Regional Transit Authority (RTA) to build the Mill Creek Station.

Working on behalf of Cleveland's Ward 2 keeps White busy, but in his spare time, he spends quality time with his wife, Darlene. He also enjoys reading, lifting weights, playing a "little" football, basketball and traveling. White is a member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church.

Before becoming a councilman, White worked as an Insurance Agent, a teacher and a legal intern for the Wilkerson & Seamon Law Firm and the Rite Aid Corporation. He attended Bates College in Lewiston, Massachusetts where he earned a bachelor's degree in political science and education and where he played football with a future geared toward professional football until a knee injury ended that dream. From there, Councilman White attended The Penn State Dickinson School of Law, formerly known as the Dickinson School of Law in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
