InfoMichael A. Dolan was appointed to represent Ward 21 on Cleveland's City Council in December 1996. Dolan has since been elected to the position twice. As a member of Council, Dolan serves on the Aviation & Transportation Committee, the Public Parks, Recreation & Properties Committee and the Legislation Committee. Prior to joining Council, Dolan was a member of the City of Cleveland Department of Law where he worked as an Assistant Director of Law.
As an Assistant Law Director, Dolan defended the Cleveland Police and Fire Departments and their members in civil rights and personal injury lawsuits. Beginning in the fall of 1995, he acted as the senior trial attorney in the Law Department's Utilities Section. As a senior trial attorney, Dolan was responsible for defending Cleveland Public Power, the Division of Water and the Division of Water Pollution Control in wrongful death, tort, contract and construction litigation matters. He was the senior Law Department attorney responsible for Cleveland Public Power's pending $40 million lawsuit concerning CPP's expansion program. Dolan also represented the Central Collection Agency in trademark prosecution and other litigation matters.

Prior to joining the City of Cleveland Department of Law, Dolan was an associate at Watts, Hoffman, Fisher & Heinke Co., L.P.A. in Cleveland, a firm specializing in Intellectual Property Law. During his tenure there, he oversaw trademark and patent cases. Prior to joining the Watts, Hoffman firm, he served as an extern to the Honorable Alice M. Batchelder, United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio, Eastern Division. Dolan is a member of the American and Ohio Bar Associations.

A graduate of Case Western Reserve University School of Law, Dolan was named the 1990 Banks-Baldwin Outstanding Clinical Student. Prior to attending law school, he worked as an Information Systems Consultant for Ernst & Whinney in Cleveland.

Attending night school, Dolan earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer and Information Science from Cleveland State University while working for the university as a groundskeeper and as an assistant programmer in the university's Computer Services Department.

Dolan resides on West Park Road with his wife Shannon Carey Dolan, a lifelong resident of West Park, and their three young children. He currently serves as a Trustee of Fairview Hospital, the West Park Fairview YMCA, the Kamm's Corners Development Corporation and the Golden Age Centers of Cleveland. He is also a member of the Ward 21 Democratic Club, Kiwanis and the Knights of Columbus.
