| Info | Ms Quentin Bryce was educated at Moreton Bay College, Brisbane, and later at the University of Queensland where she graduated with the degrees of Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws. In 1965, she was one of the first Queensland women to be admitted to the Queensland Bar.
From 1968 to 1983 Ms Bryce taught in the Faculty of Law at the University of Queensland.
In 1984 Quentin Bryce was appointed inaugural Director of the Queensland Women’s Information Service, Office of the Status of Women, Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet. In 1987 she became Queensland Director of the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission. From 1988 to 1993, Ms Bryce served as Federal Sex Discrimination Commissioner, and in the period 1993 to 1996, she was founding Chair and Chief Executive Officer of the National Childcare Accreditation Council. From 1997 to her appointment as Governor of Queensland in 2003, Quentin Bryce was Principal and Chief Executive Officer of The Women’s College within the University of Sydney, New South Wales.
In recognition of her service to the community, particularly to women and children,
Ms Bryce was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia in 1988, and elevated to a Companion of the Order of Australia in 2003. In November 2003, Ms Bryce was invested as a Dame of Grace of the Most Venerable Order of The Hospital of St John of Jerusalem. She was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Laws by Macquarie University (New South Wales) in 1998, and an Honorary Doctorate of Letters by Charles Sturt University (New South Wales) in 2002. Ms Bryce was conferred with the degrees of Honorary Doctor of the University by Griffith University (Queensland) in 2003 and Queensland University of Technology in 2004.
Quentin Bryce and her husband, Michael, were married in 1964. They have two daughters and three sons, and five grandchildren.
Ms Bryce’s interests include the visual arts, literature, opera, and women’s history.
