James served 3 1/2 years on active duty the UNITED STATES NAVY as a Naval Air Navigator, then 14 years in the NAVAL RESERVE as an Air Intelligence Officer.

James Harrington served FORSYTH COUNTY for sixteen years on the BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS between the years of 1976 and 1996.
