InfoLUNN, George Richard, a Representative from New York; born near Lenox, Taylor County, Iowa, June 23, 1873; attended the public schools at Lenox and Des Moines, Iowa; was graduated from Bellevue College, Bellevue, Nebr., in 1897; during the Spanish-American War served as corporal in Company I, Third Nebraska Regiment; pursued postgraduate work in Princeton, New York, and Columbia Universities; was graduated from Union Theological Seminary, New York City, in 1901; pastor of churches in Brooklyn and Schenectady, N.Y., 1901-1914; served as mayor of Schenectady in 1912, 1913, 1916, and 1917; elected as a Democrat to the Sixty-fifth Congress (March 4, 1917-March 3, 1919); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1918 to the Sixty-sixth Congress; mayor of Schenectady in 1920 and served until January 1, 1923, when he resigned; delegate to the Democratic National Conventions in 1920, 1924, 1928, 1932, and 1936; Lieutenant Governor of New York in 1923 and 1924; appointed public service commissioner of the State of New York in 1925, and served in that capacity until 1942 when he resigned due to ill health; died in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., November 27, 1948; interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Los Angeles, Calif.
