InfoChristian Meister, a Veteran of the United States Coast Guard, served aboard the 210-foot law enforcement vessel USCGC Dependable (WMEC-626). The ship's crew interdicted several drug traffickers in the Caribbean Sea and rescued Cuban and Haitian migrants in the Florida Straits. Meister was awarded the Humanitarian Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, CG Special Operations Service Ribbon, and the CG Meritorious Unit Commendation Award in 1992 and 1993 for his work as a Third Class Petty Officer during Operation Desert Storm.

Meister, 39, was born in Austria where he was raised by his father, a federal customs officer, and by his mother, a seamstress. He studied classical piano for a brief period and graduated from an Austrian business school. Meister came to the United States in 1987 as a 19-year-old and later made Florida his new home where he joined the U.S. Coast Guard.

After his successful stint in the United States Coast Guard, Meister, as a civilian, moved to Los Angeles in 1995 where he began to study the United States financial markets, international currency trading, and California real estate. Meister obtained a real estate sales license and negotiated commercial and residential real estate transactions.

Meister, in pursuit of knowledge, became an adult-university student and also began to take an interest in student government. Meister volunteered and became a mentor to a High School student. He also became a tutor of psychology, piano, and English. In his desire to learn more about citizens' rights and the interactions between the media, the government, and the people, Meister entered the California State University, Fullerton's communications program in 2002. Covering the business beat as a reporter for the university's newspaper, Meister, as a staff writer for the Daily Titan, wrote numerous news stories and published articles about voting and job opportunities in order to create awareness in the community. Additionally, Meister took up course work in epistemology (philosophy), criminal law, criminal justice, real estate law, and government.

In 2003, the day was ripe for Meister to get some first-hand experience in government, and he joined his fellow former Austrian country-man Arnold Schwarzenegger in the race for governor of California in the California Gubernatorial Special Election. Although Meister's bid for governorship was unsuccessful, the experience, however, did instill in him a resolve to one day enter the political arena to help the common man. Following what can best be described as a media circus, Meister became a member of the Cal State Fullerton's Academic Senate University Curriculum Committee. In 2004, Meister earned a bachelor's degree in communications and graduated Cum Laude from California State University, Fullerton, California.

Meister returned to Florida in 2004 and applied for a position as a sworn law enforcement officer at the Lee County Sheriff's Office in Fort Myers, Florida. Following a rigorous screening process, the Lee County Sheriff's Office selected Meister out of a pool of about 200 to 300 applicants along with seven other qualified candidates in order to serve the people in Lee County as a deputy sheriff.
