Info'00 congressional candidate,

Walter Henry Schwab, Jr., better known as HANK to his friends, was born April 6, 1941, in Miami, Florida, to Walter Henry and Ellen Foster Schwab. Hank attended public schools in Miami and graduated from Miami Edison High School in 1959.

Hank received his Post Graduate Degree in Architecture from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1965. Already interested in politics he ran for freshman class president, worked on the newspaper, helped the student architects association and served as Commodore of the Georgia Tech Sailing Team. Prior to opening his own firm, he practiced with the firm of Finch, Alexander, now Rosser International, and Jova Daniels and Busby.

The firm of W. Henry Schwab, Architect was founded in 1971 for the practice of architecture, planning and interior design. Hank holds a National Architectural Registration Certificate and is licensed to practice in the states of Georgia, Alabama, Florida, and North and South Carolina. The firm is a multi-disciplinary practice working on both commercial and housing design projects including site engineering. In recent years, it has concentrated on restaurants, small office buildings, office-warehouse, apartments, and homes for subdivisions. In 1985, the firm became involved in the design/build and construction management services.

Architectural design is not Hanks only creative ability. An artist and illustrator from an early age, Hank is well known for his distinctive Christmas cards. These have been sold commercially as well as sent to his many friends. Hank’s vibrant abstract watercolors have been shown at several art festivals and in galleries around Atlanta.

A resident of the Georgia 42 House District for 43 years, Hank currently resides in Midtown at 37 Twenty-Eighth Street, N.W. where he has lived for 22 years. He is a member of The Cathedral of St. Philip, Episcopal, and the father of two children. His daughter, Robbie Schwab Stadter, is also a graduate of Georgia Tech earning a Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1995. She and her husband, Mark, have two children, Laura Catherine. and Mathew Joseph. The Stadters live in Atlanta. Hank's son, Walter Henry Schwab III, better known as Wally, carried on the family tradition graduating from Georgia Tech in 1993 with a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Hank has been a strong civic leader in the community for many years. While living in Garden Hills during the 1960's and 1970's, he served as President of the Peachtree Heights Neighborhood Association, Chairman of Neighborhood Planning Unit B and Chairman of the Atlanta Clean City Commission. During this time Hank also served Republican Party Chairman for both House District 46 and Precinct 7-H.

After moving to Midtown Hank continued his leadership role with the NPU's by serving as Vice Chairman of Neighborhood Planning Unit E, and he is a current member of Neighborhood Planning Unit D. He also served as Republican Party Chairman for Precinct 8-L.

Hank is not a newcomer to political campaigns. In addition to volunteering for dozens of campaigns over the past 34 years, he was the Republican nominee for U.S. Congress from the 5th District in 2000. He knows what it takes to win an election and is willing to invest his time and money to accomplish this goal.

Hank believes that while the 42 house District is a very diverse district, we CAN all work together to improve the quality of life for ALL our citizens. He believes that the families in this district have more in common than they have in differences. Everyone wants lower taxes, safe streets, schools that teach, economic vitality, relief from traffic congestion and clean air and water.

Hank is the REPUBLICAN nominee for the Georgia House, District 42 Post #1. He is challenging Doug Teper in the November 5th General Election.
