InfoCarole Taylor’s life reflects her belief in the importance of public service and of contributing to the community.

Carole served as a popular independent alderman on Vancouver city council from 1986 to 1990. She chaired the Neighbourhood, Cultural and Community Services Committee, the Task Force on Children — resulting in a Children’s Advocate for the city — and the Greater Vancouver Regional District’s Hospital Committee.

As Chair of CBC/Radio-Canada since 2001, she has been a strong spokesperson for public broadcasting. Her business activities have included chairing the Vancouver Board of Trade, Vancouver Port Corporation, and Canada Ports Corporation. Carole’s interest in good governance has led to her serving on the boards of HSBC Holdings (London), Canfor and Fairmont Hotels, amongst others.

Carole Taylor is well known locally and nationally for a media career spanning two decades that included hosting W5, Canada AM and Pacific Report.

As a community volunteer, she has chaired the Vancouver Public Library, served as a director on the boards of BC’s Children’s Hospital and BCIT, and worked closely with S.U.C.C.E.S.S..

Carole Taylor also spearheaded the enormously successful Spirit of Vancouver campaign resulting in her being presented with Tourism Vancouver’s Spirit of Vancouver Award.

Carole has a BA in English from the University of Toronto and honorary degrees from Simon Fraser University, British Columbia Open University, and BCIT. She is also an Officer of the Order of Canada.

Carole and husband Art Phillips live in Vancouver. She has two children — Christopher is a writer in New York, and Samantha will attend medical school in the fall.
