| Info | Attorney General Troy King is no stranger to public service. He is now in his second year of service as Alabama's Attorney General and his 11th year of government service, four of those years as an Assistant Attorney General and five years in top level positions in the administrations of former Governor Fob James and Governor Bob Riley.
Attorney General King's approach to his job can best be described as energetic, hands-on, and pro-active. He has quickly become known as a champion of law enforcement, an advocate for victims of crime and a defender of Alabama’s families—particularly those most vulnerable—our children and our elderly.
Immediately after taking office, General King created his Family Protection Unit to serve as a clearinghouse for crime and prevention issues, focusing on child abuse and exploitation, elder abuse and exploitation, consumer protection and welfare fraud.
Just before Hurricane Ivan and Hurricane Dennis slammed into Alabama, General King was on the coast, warning would-be price gougers and profiteers that he would prosecute them if they attempted to scam and defraud Alabama's storm victims. Immediately after landfall, General King dispatched his entire investigations unit to the affected areas to track down and arrest the lawbreakers.
Attorney General King has worked hard in the legislative arena, achieving passage of important new laws. He led the fight in the successful passage of a new Alabama Open Meetings Law; he wrote and fought for the successful passage of a tough new law to fight the methamphetamine crisis in Alabama; he authored and was the guiding force in passing Alabama's new Community Notification Act, substantially strengthening the law to punish sex offenders and providing comprehensive and strict monitoring of sex offenders, including GPS (global positioning satellite) technology.
General King has successfully pursued and prosecuted illegal gambling, corrupt public officials, and murderers. He is a familiar face at Parole Board hearings where he stands up for the rights of victims and their families. He is law enforcement's strongest advocate, constantly reminding us of those men and women who are prepared-—and too often are required—-to give their lives as they serve and protect all of Alabama.
General and Mrs. King are the proud parents of 3 young children. They are members at First Baptist Church in Montgomery, where General King teaches 63-year olds' Sunday School.
