InfoLisa Godbey Wood was sworn in as United States Attorney on July 30, 2004, following her appointment by Attorney General John Ashcroft. She was confirmed by the United States Senate on November 22, 2004. President Bush appointed her on November 29, 2004. As United States Attorney, Ms. Wood is the chief federal law enforcement officer for the District. Ms. Wood is a 1990 summa cum laude graduate of the University of Georgia School of Law. While at law school, Ms. Wood served as managing editor of the Georgia Law Review, Chief Justice of the Honor Court and was the recipient of the Isaac Meinhard Award for maintaining the highest academic average throughout all three years of law school. She obtained her undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia as well, finishing in 1985 as First Honor Graduate.

Ms. Wood served as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Anthony A. Alaimo, United States District Court, Southern District of Georgia for one year before joining the Brunswick law firm of Gilbert, Harrell, Summerford and Martin in August 1991. She became a partner in her firm in 1995. Ms. Wood tried cases in state and federal courts for thirteen years. Prior to her appointment as United States Attorney, she was appointed to serve on the Georgia Public Safety Board which oversees the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Georgia State Patrol and Georgia Public Safety Training Center. She has served as a member of the United States District Court Advisory Committee since 1999. She also served on the State Bar of Georgia Judicial Evaluation Committee, Disciplinary Review Panel, and was the former President of the Brunswick Bar.
