Info | Donald R. Totaro was elected to serve as District Attorney of Lancaster County in November of 1999, and took office in January of 2000. From 1987 through 1999, Mr. Totaro served as a full-time Assistant District Attorney in Lancaster County, with assignments evolving from the prosecution of misdemeanors to prosecution of very serious criminal offenses. In the late 1980's, Mr. Totaro was assigned to lead an Obscenity Task Force against numerous adult bookstores in Lancaster. In 1995, he assisted in convening the first Investigating Grand Jury. Mr. Totaro also prosecuted white collar crimes, arsons, major drug dealers and numerous homicides.
Mr. Totaro belongs to a number of professional organizations, including the Pennsylvania District Attorney’s Association, National District Attorney’s Association, Lancaster County Bar Association, Pennsylvania Bar Association and Lancaster County Chiefs of Police Association. He is admitted to practice before the Lancaster County Court of Common Pleas, the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, the United States Court of Appeals for the 3rd Circuit, and the Supreme Court of the United States. In addition, Mr. Totaro has been involved in community organizations, including Leadership Lancaster (Class of 1989), United Way of Lancaster County, the Board of Directors of Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Lancaster County, and member of St. John Neumann Church.
Mr. Totaro graduated from Cedar Cliff High School, Camp Hill, in 1979. He received his Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Northeastern University, Boston, Massachusetts, in 1984. He then acquired his law degree from The American University, Washington College of Law , Washington, D.C., in 1987. Mr. Totaro resides with his wife Melanie and their two children, Douglas and Derek.
