| Info | First elected to Cleveland City Council in 1997, Councilman Joe Jones, an honors graduate of Aviation High School who attended Cleveland State University, is dedicated to working hard for the residents of Ward One. Jones has brought more than $42 million in new development to the Lee-Harvard, Seville and Miles communities.
Major projects include:
$26 million renovation of the Lee-Harvard Shopping Center;
$5 million resurfacing of Harvard Avenue;
$5 million reconstruction of Lee Road;
More than $80,000 to develop and build 3 playgrounds on school campuses;
Two new Mini-police stations;
Initiated the construction of 40 new homes with the cooperation of Amistad Development Corporation; and,
Attracting new businesses to Ward One's industrial park.
In addition, Jones is working hard to improve the quality of life in Ward One. He initiated Operation Clean Sweep and the Senior's 50/50 Program for Home Improvement to help senior citizens with the up-keep of their property. Jones is also working with Commander McGrath of the Cleveland Police Department to increase police visibility and fight drugs in the community.
Currently, Jones is the Region V Director of the National Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials, a National League of Cities organization.
Jones' commitment to his community was born out of respect for his parents' generation who worked hard so that future generations would have better and more opportunities. "It is incumbent now, upon our generation, to grasp the understanding of the struggle and sacrifices made by generations before us, to be able to hold hands with the strong to pull up the weak," Jones said. "We must be a generation that is educationally capable, politically astute and economically sound." For these reasons, Jones is committed to working hard for everyone in the community.
