InfoChristopher John "Chris" Matthews

TV Debate Show Host-"Hardball"

When it's time to ask the tough questions, Chris Matthews is the man for the job. With his no-nonsense style and razor-sharp wit, he uncovers the reality behind the spin, whether it's politics, world-events or a national scandal. Host of Hardball with Chris Matthews and The Chris Matthews Show, he is a frequent commentator on NBC's Today and often hosts Weekend Today. Matthews has covered such seminal events as the collapse of the Berlin Wall, South Africa's first open election, and the historic peace referendum in Northern Ireland. Author of American, Beyond Our Grandest Notions, Now Let Me Tell You What I Really Think and two others, he helps audiences uncover the truth beneath the hype. As speechwriter for President Carter and top aide to House Speaker Tip O'Neill, Matthews learned the political game by playing on the front lines. He served as Washington Bureau chief for the San Francisco Examiner and wrote a nationally syndicated column for the San Francisco Chronicle
