Info | Tom J. Ervin is a 1974 graduate of Erskine College and a 1977 graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Law. Ervin was admitted to practice in South Carolina in 1977. In 1979, Ervin was elected to the South Carolina House of Representatives from House District 7 in Anderson County, S.C. He was re-elected to the House of Representatives in 1981 without opposition. Ervin served as a Commissioner for the South Carolina Workers' Compensation Commission from 1984 to 1985. He was elected as Resident Circuit Court Judge for the Tenth Judicial Circuit where he served for fourteen years from 1985 to 1999. Ervin holds the distinction of being the youngest circuit court judge to have ever been elected by the South Carolina General Assembly.
Ervin is "Of Counsel" with the firm of Kathryn Williams, P.A. concentrating his practice in the area of Social Security Disability Benefits representing claimants before the Social Security Administration. Ervin is also a certified mediator and arbitrator in South Carolina. Ervin is the author of "Ervin's South Carolina Requests To Charge, Civil and Criminal", which is a two volume set of jury instructions published by the South Carolina Bar's CLE Division. Ervin has lectured at numerous South Carolina Bar Continuing Legal Education seminars and is a former member of the South Carolina Commission on Continuing Legal Education and Specialization.
