* the establishment of Pregnancy Help and early work with Nursing Mothers and the Childbirth Education Association;
* her interest in the Women's Health and Information Centre,
* her appointment to the Mackay Regional Health Council;
* chairing the Primary Health Care Forum;
* serving on three school boards and been active in Parents and Friends Associations;
* currently Cherry is the vice chairperson of the Mackay Regional Electricity Council and Treasurer of the Youth Information and Referral Service.

Cherry sees health and education issues to be of primary importance to the people of Dawson, as are local service issues.
