| Info | Kevin Ross was raised in a small farming community in south central Minnesota. It was there that his concepts of family, hard work, integrity, and community were developed. He earned his bachelor’s degree in finance and communication at the University of Minnesota. After graduation, he sold everything he owned and headed for Phoenix. He found himself in a strange place with $200 to his name, an expired license plate and no place to live. But he had that degree in hand and soon landed a job working in commercial and residential lending. He stayed with that job until 1989.
In 1990, Kevin founded his own mortgage company in Tempe specializing in Commercial and Residential lending. He later sold his interest to company employees to focus on his duties as Assessor.
Kevin Ross was elected to serve as Maricopa County Assessor in November of 1996. In November, 2000 he ran unopposed and was re-elected to another four year term. During his service as Assessor, he has helped spearhead several important legislative and administrative issues. Kevin saw too many of our older citizens losing their homes because of increasing property taxes they could ill afford on their fixed incomes. Kevin took the initiative and did something about it. He helped draft and nurtured through the “Senior Home Ownership Protection Act.” Soon after, Kevin helped spearhead legislation which eliminates double taxation on homeowners, working with others to exempt all common areas, recreation and community centers, and community pools from property taxation. This helps reduce association fees for homeowners across Arizona. Another piece of legislation due to his efforts was “Slumlord Registration and Abatement”, which helps reduce rundown rental property and blight. Within the Assessor’s office, Kevin has been instrumental in developing the first comprehensive electronic permit transfer system in the country.
Kevin, and his wife, Lisa Marie were married in 1999. Kevin has a stepson, Sean, who is 19, and Kevin and Lisa have a son, Charlie, who is 1 year old. Kevin’s fondness for the small-town and its atmosphere was a major factor in his choice of Gilbert as his new “hometown.” He wanted a place where he could get to know his neighbors, and could stop and chat or say hello when he ran into them at the grocery store. Lisa is a native of Colorado Springs, Colorado. She moved to Gilbert in 1978, graduating from Gilbert High School in 1981. She has lived in the East Valley ever since. Lisa shares his love of the small-town environment.
