Personal Message

When I became a minister in government in the early nineties, I learnt very rapidly how easy it could be to become part of the set-up, and I saw it happen to so many of my colleagues. There were the government whips demanding absolute obedience.

There were the civil servants saying "Sorry minister, you have to do it this way". Eventually I rebelled over the Maastricht Treaty and resigned from my government post because loyalty to country was, and still is, more important to me than anything else. I am sure that my early experiences in government will give me a head start when I come up against the sham parliament in Strasbourg, and the ramshackle bureaucracy in Brussels.

The job of a party leader is to read the wishes of the members and then to provide the political leadership to bring those about.

Since I became the leader of the UKIP you have made it absolutely clear to me that, unlike the so called 'eurosceptics' in other parties, you do not want a better deal out of Brussels, you just want out! That will be my aim.

As an MEP I shall ensure maximum transparency is given to the devious workings of Brussels, whilst working to achieve UK withdrawal from the EU.
