InfoNorma Torres has lived in Pomona for many years with her husband Louis and their three boys.

In 2000 Norma decided to get more involved in her city by successfully running for City Council. After being elected by her fellow Pomona residents she immediately started to tackle some of the challenges that face our wonderful city.

For a start, Norma has listened to the residents concerns and has organized events to help clean up the community. In coordination with city staff and Universal Waste Systems, District 6 has had numerous neighborhood clean ups. Under Norma's leadership, many organizations have contributed their time and personnel to help renovate and repair houses for our low-income neighbors. Norma started an annual tradition with the Most Beautiful Yard Contest. This contest has inspired Pomona residents to beautify their yards and make a difference in the appearance of their community.

Through a series of town hall meetings with city planners and the young people of Pomona, Norma has taken the lead in creating a Skate Park and a teen center for Pomona's youth.

Norma has tackled the difficult issues of taxation and transportation. She was instrumental in saving Pomona's City services such as the Police and Fire protection by campaigning against a measure that would have cut these services.

In 2002 along with the Pomona Valley Transportation Authority Board, Norma developed a transportation program to assists residents to get to popular shopping destinations in Pomona.

Most important to residents, Norma and the Pomona Police Department have worked together to implement a Zero Tolerance campaign against crime.

Currently, Norma serves on various committees. She volunteers her time, knowledge and expertise to these committees in order to secure a positive future for Pomona.
Norma's method of working side by side with the community, city government and industry has proven to be a winning combination for Pomona.
