InfoTerry is a lifelong resident of Northwest Florida, having arrived at the age of four in 1959. Terry's father was a career enlisted man in the United States Air Force and was stationed at Hurlburt Field. Terry was active in sports as a youth and served as the Captain of his Choctawhatchee High School Football team. Following graduation from high school in 1973, Terry received a full football scholarship to Duke University where he graduated in 1977.

Following graduation, Terry attended the University of Florida School of Law, where he graduated in 1981. Terry's interest in government led him to a position in Washington, D.C., as the legislative director for Congressman Guy Vander Jagt who was a ranking member on the powerful Ways and Means Committee. In his capacity as Legislative Director, Terry was intimately involved in the formulation and passage of major pieces of legislation, including the Tax Reform Act of 1986 and international trade legislation. After spending four years working on Capitol Hill, Terry opened a Washington D.C. branch office for a Miami-based law firm, Sparber, Shevin, Shapo and Heilbronner, and served as the senior attorney for that office. During his time in Washington, Terry was blessed to meet his wife, the former Carolyn Newcomer and they married in 1983. After the birth of their first child, Micah, the couple decided to return to Terry’s roots in Florida to raise their family in 1987. Terry opened a branch office for Burnham, Connelly, Oesterle & Henry, a national law firm in Fort Walton Beach, Florida.

In 1988, Terry formed his own law firm and has served as the managing partner since that time. Terry's principal areas of practice are construction and business litigation as well as guardianship law and commercial transactions. During the last 18 years practicing law in Northwest Florida Terry has handled thousands of cases and practiced in all of the Courts in the First Judicial Circuit. For the last decade, Terry has also specialized in construction and contract disputes on federal facilities, and in that capacity has conducted complex construction trials in Florida, Tennessee, Ohio, Mississippi, and Alabama. Terry's extensive litigation experience in different trial settings over the last 18 years has provided a breadth of understanding of the judicial process that has well prepared him for a Circuit Judge position in the First Judicial Circuit.

Terry is currently a managing partner in the law firm of Ketchel & Lester located in Okaloosa County. Ketchel & Lester specializes in business and criminal defense litigation. Terry is a member of the Florida Bar since 1983, and is currently licensed to practice law throughout the state courts in Florida, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Florida, the United States Court of Claims, and the various federal Boards of Contract Appeals throughout the United States. Since his return to Florida, Terry has been extensively involved in community activities. Terry has served as the Vice-President of Government Affairs for the Greater Fort Walton Beach Chamber of Commerce, was active as a Boy Scout leader in Troop 543 for over a decade, and participated as a youth coach on numerous YMCA and PASA youth leagues. He is also a member of the Fort Walton Beach Kiwanis Club. Terry has also been extremely active in church and school activities. He has served as a longtime Eucharistic Minister at St. Mary Church and is a charter member of the local Okaloosa County chapter of the Christian Legal Society. Terry currently serves as the Chairman of the Choctawhatchee High School School Advisory Committee and has served as the past-chairman of the St. Mary School Board. Terry has also been active in local politics, having participated as a candidate for the United States Congress for the First Congressional District in 1990 and 1992.

Terry's family has also been very active in the community. In addition to being a Christian Family Counselor, Carolyn is well-known in the community in her role as co-host of a talk-show on WPSM (91.1). Terry is extremely proud of his two sons who both earned the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout. Terry's oldest son, Micah, is currently in his junior year at Florida State University where he was elected to the FSU Senate; and his youngest son, Andrew received a full football scholarship to attend the University of South Florida in Tampa where he is attending this fall as a freshman.
