InfoCHANDLER, Walter Marion, a Representative from New York; born near Yazoo City, Yazoo County, Miss., December 8, 1867; attended the public schools, the University of Virginia at Charlottesville, and the University of Mississippi at Oxford; taught school; was graduated from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor in 1897; studied history and jurisprudence at the Universities of Berlin and Heidelberg, Germany; was admitted to the bar in 1897 and commenced the practice of law in Dallas, Tex.; moved to New York City in 1900 and continued the practice of law; also engaged in writing and lecturing; elected as a Progressive to the Sixty-third and Sixty-fourth Congresses and as a Republican to the Sixty-fifth Congress (March 4, 1913-March 3, 1919); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1918 to the Sixty-sixth Congress; elected as a Republican to the Sixty-seventh Congress (March 4, 1921-March 3, 1923); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1922 to the Sixty-eighth Congress and also unsuccessfully contested the election of Sol Bloom to fill a vacancy in the Sixty-eighth Congress; unsuccessful candidate for election in 1924 to the Sixty-ninth Congress; member of the faculty and lecturer at the American Expeditionary Forces University at Beaune, France, during the First World War; resumed the practice of law in New York City; died in New York City on March 16, 1935; interment in the West Evergreen Cemetery, Jacksonville, Fla.
