InfoBOON, Ratliff, a Representative from Indiana; born in Franklin County, N.C., January 18, 1781; moved with his parents to Warren County, Ky.; attended the public schools; moved to Danville, Ky., and learned the gunsmith’s trade; moved to what is now Boon Township, Warrick County, Ind., in 1809; on the organization of Warrick County was appointed its first treasurer in 1813; member of the State house of representatives in 1816 and 1817; served in the State senate in 1818; elected Lieutenant Governor of Indiana in 1819; upon the resignation of Jonathan Jennings became Governor and served from September 12 to December 5, 1822; reelected Lieutenant Governor in August 1822 and served until January 30, 1824, when he resigned to become a candidate for Congress; elected as a Jacksonian to the Nineteenth Congress (March 4, 1825-March 3, 1827); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1826 to the Twentieth Congress; elected as a Jacksonian to the Twenty-first through Twenty-fourth Congresses and as a Democrat to the Twenty-fifth Congress (March 4, 1829-March 3, 1839); chairman, Committee on Public Lands (Twenty-fourth and Twenty-fifth Congresses); unsuccessful candidate for election to the United States Senate in 1836; moved to Pike County, Mo., in 1839; died in Louisiana, Mo., on November 20, 1844; interment in Riverview Cemetery.
