| Info | Glick has been a social change activist since 1968. His activism began on April 4th, 1968, the day that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was shot. That evening he wrote up a petition to Congress calling for action to address the injustices Dr. King was working against, taped it to the wall of the mail room at his college, Grinnell College in Iowa, and sent it off several days later with 450 signatures.
From 1969 to 1975 Glick was active in the peace movement protesting the Vietnam war, including time spent in prison for his strongly held beliefs.
In 1973-74 he co-founded and was a national coordinator of the National Campaign to Impeach Nixon.
Following Richard Nixon's resignation, Glick moved to Brooklyn, N.Y. where he was a community organizer for over 20 years, working on issues of tenants rights, unemployment, racism, neighborhood development, environmental protection and economic justice. During that time he was also national coordinator of the Coalition for a People's Alternative. This group organized an alternative "People's Convention" on Charlotte St. in the South Bronx and a march of 15,000 people to the National Convention of the Democratic Party at Madison Square Garden in August of 1980.
He is the author of a book, "Future Hope: A Winning Strategy for a Just Society" and produces a bi-weekly column, Future Hope, distributed nationally.
Following the terrorist attacks on September 11th, and the actions taken by the Bush Administration in response, he became a leader in the coalition of many hundreds of organizations around the country which organized a peace and justice demonstration of 80,000 people in Washington, D.C. this past April 20th.
Glick is active in a number of organizations in New Jersey and nationally. In addition to the Green Party of New Jersey, he is a member of the Bloomfield North End Coalition, the Bloomfield Third Riverbank Association, Friends of Clarks Pond and the Third River, the N.J. Mobilization for Global Justice, N.J. Peace Action, People's Organization for Progress, N.J. Jobs with Justice, Labor Party, Democracy Action Project and the Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
Glick has been married for 23 years to Jane Califf, a teacher at Rutgers University in Newark. They have an 18-year-old son, Daniel Califf-Glick, who just completed his freshman year at Rutgers/New Brunswick.
