InfoBill Finch was re-elected to a third term in the State Senate in November 2004. Prior to becoming the State Senator from the 22nd District, which includes Bridgeport, Trumbull, and Monroe, Bill served as a Bridgeport City Council member elected to five terms for nine and a half years, beginning in 1991.

Senator Finch served as chair of the Banks Committee during the 2005 legislative session and currently serves as chairman of the legislature's Environment Committee. Senator Finch also serves as vice chair the Transportation Committee, and sits as a member of both the Education and Finance, Revenue & Bonding Committees.

Senator Finch's legislative priorities continue to include property tax reform, smart growth initiatives, keeping children safe with booster seats, combating underage drinking, transportation issues, and gun control. Upon arriving at the Senate, Finch initiated the "Who Wants to Change the World?" Contest--an exciting, hands-on program to involve youth with government and inspire them to be active citizens. He also spearheaded an ongoing movement to recognize and preserve the works of the renowned landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted.

Senator Finch is pleased to continue to secure funding for Bridgeport's dynamic Downtown North project and the Sterling Market Lofts artist housing in the former Reed's Department Store. Downtown North will help the Park City's struggling downtown revitalize itself and bring residents, businesses, and consumers back to the area. Bill has also worked hard to enhance Bridgeport's infrastructure, helping to negotiate the construction of the Bluefish Baseball Stadium, the Arena at Harbor Yard, and other key projects.

A native of Trumbull, Bill was elected Trumbull's youngest Constable at age 19. He then moved to Bridgeport, where as a City Council member he developed a strong record of cutting taxes, helping to create new jobs, and enhancing public safety by voting to add more police officers to the force and promoting programs such as gun safety lock distribution.

Bill received a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of Connecticut, and while he was there served as the student representative to the University's Board of Trustees.

Bill is a member of the Grow Bridgeport Fund, and is a past member of the Connecticut Zoological Society and the Leo J. Ryan Education Foundation Board of Directors.

He and his wife Sonya live at 70 Crown Street in Bridgeport. He is the father of three sons, Peter, Christopher and Atticus. Bill currently serves as President of the Bridgeport Economic Development Corporation.
