Info | Gilliam was born in Bertie County NC on 3/9/1818. The family moved to Windsor circa 1820. Gilliam became an attorney and practiced in Plymouth NC until the Civil War. In 1862, he was captured by the Union Army at Hatteras and served in a Union prison on Blackwell's Island. After the Civil War, Gilliam practiced law in Edenton, then moved to Raleigh circa 1878. He held various judicial positions after the Civil War. He died on 7/9/1891 in Raleigh.
