InfoKen Jacob was born on January 23, 1949 to a working class family in St. Louis Missouri. Ken was the oldest of the four children in the Jacob family.

Like many Missourians Ken Jacob was initially unable to attend a four year college upon completing high school. Following his graduation from Lindbergh High school Ken began taking classes at Meramec Community College. Thanks to his hard work at Meramec and a little help from a student loan program Senator Jacob was able to transfer to the University of Missouri.

While at the University of Missouri, Ken Jacob became the first in his family to earn a college degree. He eventually received a bachelor's degree in education, and master's degrees in counseling and public administration as well as a law degree. It was also in Columbia that Ken met Nancy Sublette whom he would later marry.

Ken Jacob began his lifelong commitment to the young people of Missouri immediately upon finishing his masters' degree in counseling. He worked at and served on the board of numerous youth programs and eventually became the executive director at the Front Door, a treatment center for adolescents troubled with addictions to drugs and alcohol.

Continuing his commitment to Missouri's young people, Ken Jacob sought election to the Columbia school board in 1981. During his first year as a school board member he saw many of the programs he had advocated for being decimated due to budget cuts implemented by the Reagan administration. In 1982 he decided to do something about it and ran a successful campaign for the state legislature, in what was then a Republican held seat.

Ken Jacob served the residents of mid-Missouri in the House of Representatives from 1983-1996 and then in the Missouri Senate from 1997-present. During that time he became known as a champion for the rights of working men and women, environmental protection and affordable healthcare for children and seniors. He is best known however, for his unyielding support of public education at all levels. Senator Jacob authored both the Missouri College Guarantee and the Missouri Bright Flight Scholarship programs, which have helped make a college education more affordable for thousands of Missouri families.

In November of 2002 following the Republican takeover of the Missouri House and continued Democratic losses in the Missouri Senate, Ken Jacob was elected to the post of Senate Minority Leader. In electing Ken Jacob as their leader, the Democratic Party chose to bring a fresh and aggressive leadership style to the Senate that was necessary to stand up to the Republican leadership in both houses. Senator Jacob has used his position as Minority Leader to slow down and in many cases stop the advance of the radical agenda put forward by Catharine Hanaway and Peter Kinder.

In September of 2003, after the announcement that Joe Maxwell would not seek reelection, Ken Jacob announced his intention to run for Lieutenant Governor. He made this decision because he understands the critical importance of the Lieutenant Governor's office in the current political environment. Ken Jacob is running for Lieutenant Governor because he knows the only way to protect Missouri's most vulnerable citizens is to have a Lieutenant Governor who is both willing and able to stand up to the Republican majority in the Missouri Senate. His twenty-two years of experience in the legislature as well as the courage he has shown during his tenure as minority leader make him the only candidate capable of fulfilling that important goal.

Senator Ken Jacob resides in Columbia with his wife Nancy and their children Daniel and Jessica. Ken Jacob currently serves as the Senate Minority Floor Leader.
