InfoEric D. Fingerhut was appointed the seventh Chancellor of the Ohio Board of Regents on March 14, 2007. In 1991-92 and from 1999-2006, Mr. Fingerhut represented Ohio’s 25th Senate District, which is located in the eastern half of Cuyahoga County. He served for eight years on the Finance (Budget) Committee, with six of those years as the ranking Minority Member. He also served on the Insurance, Commerce and Labor Committee, on the Judiciary Committee on Civil Justice, on the Ways and Means and Economic Development Committee, on the Health, Human Services and Aging Committee, and on the Education Committee.

Mr. Fingerhut previously served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1993-94, serving on the House Science, Space and Technology Committee, the Foreign Affairs Committee, and the Banking, Finance and Urban Affairs Committee.

Trained as a lawyer, Fingerhut served as an attorney in the Older Person’s Law Office of the Legal Aid Society of Cleveland, as an attorney with the Cleveland firm of Hahn, Loeser & Parks, and as the Associate Director of Cleveland Works, a nationally recognized, innovative welfare-to-work program. Mr. Fingerhut has served as Senior Fellow at the Center for Community Solutions (formerly the Federation for Community Planning,) a non-profit organization that takes the lead in planning and advocacy on health and human services issues in Greater Cleveland.

From 2005-07, Mr. Fingerhut joined the Business Administration faculty of Baldwin-Wallace College as the Director of Economic Development Education and Entrepreneurship. He also has also served as a Senior Lecturer at Case Western Reserve University.

Mr. Fingerhut authored Making Ohio Great Again, a book published by Fairway Press that makes the case for change in Ohio and the nation and sets forth Mr. Fingerhut’s ideas for the future. He also has published numerous articles in regional and national newspapers.

A 1977 graduate of Cleveland Heights High School, Mr. Fingerhut earned a Bachelor of Science degree with highest honors from Northwestern University in 1981 and received a law degree from the Stanford University School of Law in 1984.

Mr. Fingerhut teaches religious school at his synagogue and is a frequent lecturer on public policy at area schools and civic organizations. He currently resides in Shaker Heights, Ohio, with his wife, Amy, and their two young sons, Sam and Charlie.
