Senator Matt Bartle was born and raised in Columbia, Missouri. He graduated from Hickman High School in 1983. Senator Bartle then attended the University of Missouri, Columbia, where he graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in EconomThe Bartle Family: clockwise - Annette, Betsy, Matt, and Mackics in 1987. While at Mizzou, Matt Bartle was a member of The Mystical Seven, Phi Beta Kappa and Mortar Board. In 1990, Senator Bartle graduated cum laude from the Northwestern University School of Law in Chicago, Illinois. Senator Bartle served as an editor on the Northwestern Law Review. Upon graduation from law school, Senator Bartle completed a one-year judicial clerkship for the Honorable W. Eugene Davis of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. Senator Bartle began his legal career in the Kansas City office of Bryan Cave. In 1998, he joined Berkowitz Stanton Brandt Williams & Shaw, LLP, where he is now a partner.
Senator Bartle was elected to the Missouri House of Representatives in 1998 and again in 2000. In 2002, the people of the 8th Senatorial District, which includes all of Eastern Jackson County, elected him their state senator. Senator Bartle is chairman of the Senate Judiciary committee, chairman of the Joint Interim Committee on Judicial Resources, and serves on the Commerce, Financial Organizations and Education committees.
Senator Bartle and his wife, Annette, have been married for 14 years. They have a son, Mack, who is 9 years old and a daughter, Betsy, who is 5 years old.
