InfoJerry Mackie grew up in Craig, Alaska, where his family has long been established in the business community. He attended public schools in Craig and Ketchikan, graduating from Ketchikan High School in 1980.

Jerry currently operates the Sunnahae (Sun-A-Hay) Lodge in Craig. In the past he has been a fire chief, a village public safety officer, and a seine boat owner and captain. Prior to becoming a legislator, he served in various positions on the Shann Seet Village Corporation Board. He has also served on the board of directors of the Alaska Federation of Natives

Jerry has been active in promoting youth sports and is a former president of the Craig/Klawock little league. He is a member of several fraternal organizations.

Jerry was first elected to the Alaska State House of Representatives in 1990, at which time he was the youngest member serving. He was re-elected twice to the Southeast Islands District seat. In 1996, Jerry was elected to the State Senate, representing Southeast and Kodiak Islands Senate District C.

Jerry is the Majority Leader of the Senate. He is also a member of the Senate Community and Regional Affairs Committee and a member of the Senate Resources Committee
