Gibson, and served from June 24, 1940, to January 3, 1941; was not a candidate for election to fill the vacancy; during the Second World War served in the South Pacific and was discharged as a colonel 1941-1945; Governor of Vermont 1946-1950, resigned to accept a judicial position; appointed a United States district judge for the district of Vermont 1950-1969; died in Brattleboro, Vt., November 4, 1969; interment in Morningside Cemetery.
