====================================

Currently serving his eighth term in the General Assembly, Paul DiGaetano has been elected to seven consecutive terms representing District 36. He has been Republican Leader of the state Assembly and that body?s Majority Leader for six years.

Paul DiGaetano has served as Chairman of numerous committees, such as, the Assembly Policy and Rules Committee, the Assembly Task Force on Adolescent Violence and the Regulatory Oversight Subcommittee on Automobile Insurance. He has also served as a member of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Commission, the Legislative Service Commission and the New Jersey Commission on Science and Technology.

During his distinguished legislative career, DiGaetano has pushed many measures to serve the public's interest, such as: right-to-sue HMOs; mandatory health insurance coverage for women's cervical cancer tests; reducing the tax burden on New Jersey's working poor; cutting taxes more than fifty times; creating urban enterprise zones (UEZs); protecting children from sexual predators; toughing rape penalties; and, reforming binding arbitration laws.

DiGaetano sponsored a law that created New Jersey's first ever cord blood resource center. The center collects blood from the umbilical cords of newborn babies to combat various blood diseases and cancers such as leukemia. Medical experts believe this groundbreaking initiative will help save countless lives. DiGaetano also secured funding in the State?s budget to purchase enhanced testing equipment for newborn infants. As a result, the state's laboratory now tests for cystic fibrosis, congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH), biotinidase and maple syrup urine disease (MSUD), among others.

Paul DiGaetano graduated from Notre Dame with a degree in Aerospace Engineering. He is the President of J. DiGaetano and Sons, a construction and development firm. Paul resides in Nutley, NJ with his wife Yvonne and their three sons, aged eight to sixteen.

General Assembly 1986-87, 1992-present, Republican Leader 2002-present, Majority Leader 1996-2001.
