Abel for the term ending January 3, 1955; reelected in 1960, 1966, and again in 1972 and served from January 1, 1955, to January 3, 1979; was not a candidate for reelection in 1978; chairman, Republican Conference (1975-1979); practiced law in Lincoln, Nebr. where he was a resident until his death on January 24, 2000; interment in Minden Cemetery in Minden, Nebr.
