InfoJustin Trudeau is the eldest son of the late former Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau and his wife, Margaret Trudeau. He and his younger brother, Alexandre (Sacha), were both born on December 25. Pierre and Margaret Trudeau separated in 1977, when Justin was 6 years old. Pierre retired as Prime Minister in 1984.

Pierre continued to raise his children in relative privacy in Montreal. Justin studied English literature (BA, McGill University) and Education (B.Ed, University of British Columbia), eventually becoming a teacher in British Columbia. He is currently completing a Master of Arts in Geography at McGill University.

At the state funeral of Pierre Trudeau in 2000, Justin delivered a memorable eulogy.

Justin Trudeau has been a campaigner for winter safety since the death of his brother Michel in an avalanche on a ski trip in 1998. In 2003, he served as a panelist on CBC Radio's Canada Reads series, where he championed The Colony of Unrequited Dreams by Wayne Johnston.

On May 28, 2005, Justin Trudeau married Sophie Grégoire, a former model and Quebec television host.

He is one of several children of former Prime Ministers who have become Canadian media personalities. The others are Ben Mulroney, Catherine Clark, and Justin's younger brother, Alexandre. Though Pierre Trudeau and Brian Mulroney were longtime foes, this rivalry did not carry over to their sons, as Ben Mulroney was a guest at Justin Trudeau's wedding.

On 17 September 2006, Justin hosted a rally in Ramsden Park in Toronto, calling for Canadian participation in the Darfur crisis.

On 25 October 2006, Trudeau appeared on CTV's Canada AM. Asked about what he thought of Quebecers asking for national recognition, he replied that nationalism is "based on a smallness of thought.” His comments were seen as a criticism of Michael Ignatieff's push to recognize Quebec as a nation.

During the 2006 Liberal Party of Canada leadership convention, Trudeau endorsed Gerard Kennedy. When Kennedy dropped off after the 2nd ballot, Trudeau went with him to support former Environment Minister Stephane Dion.

They have a sucky candidate vetting process.

But seriously I bet he still wins some sort of Pyrrhic minority victory in one month.

He's like Trump. He doesn't care about the law or standards applying to him, only others. And his core supporters are rabid enough that they will call this a lie or they are too scared to stand-up to him for fear of reprisal. Exact same tactics as Trump.

The weird thing about this, if his ego was in check, he could have resigned and we would talking about the landslide victory that Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland was headed towards.

Will this severely dent the Liberal Party's election prospects? I don't know. Will this make Liberal activists less inclined to put in that extra shift knocking on doors? That's more likely.

I know I doesn't really matter, but am I the only one who thinks his hair and beard look completely unprofessional, to be fair this is coming from a former Trump voter but just something I felt like commenting on.

His hair was the subject of fascination by Canadians, as people were judging the length of lockdown by Trudeau's hair. [Link] I believe he got it cut in June, but has kept the beard. [Link]

I take your point about the mop, but hair plays a role in shaping someone's image (see Johnson, Boris). In Trudeau's case, looking solely at it from a superficial angle, it shows a level of sacrifice during COVID, a level of humility from someone very image-conscious, and maybe maturity with the beard? Conservatives would totally counter that and say pretty boy Justin is trying to be even more of a hipster.

Why not just use an HP...or get a Mac. This seems very Potemkin Village-ish.

Canadian political analysts also reading into the Trudeau haircut; "Does this mean the election is near?" (Or, Ontario allowed hair salons to reopen on June 30th)

He should call an election. I mean the conservatives are once again led by an unlikable wet rag. The Conservatives numbers are epically low and the Liberals would likely gain a majority despite a number of scandals.

It's always a risk that things don't go as planned though.

RP: It's always a risk that things don't go as planned though.

I'd wait unless there is any sign the conservatives might change their leader by '23.
