InfoJerry Kann, 46, is a freelance proofreader and editor. He lives in the Astoria section of the borough of Queens in New York City.

A veteran of six Green Party campaigns since registering as a Green in June 2000, Kann has also been employed for short stints as a petitioner and organizer, first for Ralph Nader’s independent campaign for President in 2004 and later for the Green Party of New York State’s “Peace Slate” of statewide candidates in 2006.

Kann has run for New York City Council as a Green three times, winnning 20 percent of the vote in 2003. In 2005 he earned the distinction of facing an opponent who was backed by both major parties---an incumbent Democrat who appeared on the ballot under his own party’s candidate for Mayor as well as under that of billionaire Republican Michael Bloomberg. (New York is one of the few states that allows “fusion,” whereby a candiate can run as the nominee of two or more parties, including the two major parties. Kann observes that this demonstrates the fact that sometimes there is literally no difference at all between Republicans and Democrats.)

From Nov. 2002 to Nov. 2006, Kann was a volunteer for the Green Party Office in Manhattan, first as its secretary and later as its treasurer. This office served as the primary organizing and meeting place for the Greens in New York City during its four years in operation.

Kann is a native of the Cleveland, Ohio, area and a graduate of Cleveland State University with a bachelor’s degree in literature. In 1987 he moved to New York City, where he has worked primarily in publishing and advertising.
