Info | Achtenberg served in the Clinton Administration for four years, first as Assistant Secretary of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity at the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and later as Senior Advisor to then HUD Secretary Henry G. Cisneros.
Before her appointment to HUD, Achtenberg served on the Board of Supervisors for the City and County of San Francisco from 1990-1993. She also represented San Francisco as a Director for the Bay Area Air Quality Management District, and served on the Board of Directors of the San Francisco County Transportation Authority.
Prior to her election to the Board of Supervisors, Achtenberg worked for more than fifteen years as a civil rights attorney, non-profit director, and legal educator. Her work included appointments as a Teaching Fellow at Stanford University Law School and as Dean of New College of California School of Law.
