Info | First elected to the Assembly in 1978, then to the Senate in 1986 Senator Nick Spano is now serving as the Assistant Majority Leader of the New York State Senate.
A lifelong resident of Yonkers, Senator Spano is the father of two children Christina and Leonard.
He is currently the head of the Westchester County Albany Delegation. Senator Spano also chairs the Senate Labor Committee and is a member of Cities, Civil Service and Pensions, Education, Finance, Investigations, Taxation and Government Operations, Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities, Racing, Gaming and Wagering and Rules.
Senator Spano was recently appointed by the Majority Leader to head the newly created Senate Task Force on Voter Participation.
The oldest of 16 children, Senator Spano is the son of Westchester County Clerk Leonard and his wife Josephine Spano. His brother is New York Assemblyman Michael Spano.
Senator Spano has been the author of dozens of new laws in New York State to protect working families. Most notably, he is the sponsor of the Community Reinvestment Act, landmark legislation aimed at closing down outdated institutions in favor of Community Based Mental Health Care Services.
Senator Nick Spano is a graduate of Iona College in New Rochelle.
