InfoLA FOLLETTE, William Leroy, a Representative from Washington; born in Thorntown, near Shammondale, Boone County, Ind., November 30, 1860; attended the graded schools in Thorntown, Ind., and at the same time clerked in a store and was employed at the jewelry trade; attended Indiana Central Normal College in Thorntown; moved to the Territory of Washington in 1876 and located in the Willamette Valley in Oregon; moved to the Palouse country in 1877; engaged in agricultural pursuits, stock raising, and fruit growing in Whitman County, and was also extensively engaged as an orchardist at Wawawai, Wash.; disposed of his fruit interests in 1908 and moved to Pullman, Wash.; member of the State house of representatives 1899-1901; member of the World�s Fair Commission and had charge of the Washington State building at the Chicago Exposition in 1893; elected as a Republican to the Sixty-second and to the three succeeding Congresses (March 4, 1911-March 3, 1919); unsuccessful candidate for renomination in 1918; resided in Spokane, Wash., 1920-1923, and Princess Anne, Md., 1924 and 1925; moved to Colfax, Wash., in 1927; resumed his former business activities; died in Colfax, Wash., December 20, 1934; interment in Colfax Cemetery.
