Info | Nat is an associate professor at Smith College, where he teaches courses in undergraduate physics and renewable energy. He earned his Ph.D. in physics at Boston University in 1990. He did his postdoctoral research in Japan before joining the Smith College faculty in 1994.
Nat currently serves as a member of the Whately Elementary School Committee and a member of the Whately Cultural Council; his wife Joyce has been a leader in the School Council and PTO. Nat and Joyce regularly volunteer as visiting scientists at Whately Elementary School, where their children attend fourth and sixth grade.
As a school committee member, Nat organized a successful campaign to provide long term, individualized instruction for all students at Whately Elementary. Nat has also worked to protect the legal rights of parents whose children participate in afte-school programs and to provide all children with fee and equal access to full day kindergarten. Nat believes that every child is special, and that every child deserves a special education.
Nat and his family are also enthusiastic shareholders in Riverland Farm - a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) organic farm in Sunderland - and have been since its founding. CSA farms not only provide shareholders with fresh, local produce, they also help protect productive farmland, preserve open space and strengthen the local economy.
