Info | Norm Miller was elected to represent the riding of Parry Sound-Muskoka in a byelection on March 22, 2001, and was re-elected in the general election held in October 2003. He currently holds the Critic Portfolio for the Ministry of Northern Development and Mines and is a member of the Standing Committee on the
Legislative Assembly.
From April 2002 to September 2003, Norm was the Parliamentary Assistant to the
Minister of Northern Development and Mines. He also served as Vice-Chair of the General Government Committee, Commissioner of the Red Tape Secretariat, member of the Estimates Committee, and sat on the Cabinet Committee for Economic and Resource Policy.
Born in 1956, Norm is the third of four children to Ann and the late Frank Miller, former Muskoka M.P.P. and Ontario Premier. Norm learned the value of hard work and the importance of family growing up and working in the resort business.
Norm is a fifth generation resident of the Parry Sound-Muskoka riding. For the last 25 years, together with his wife, Christine, they have owned and operated a lodge on Lake Muskoka. The business has prospered and they have expanded the season and upgraded facilities.
Norm's involvement with politics began in 1975, when he started the Muskoka Young P.C. organization. The young PCs were enthusiastic campaigners, organizing political events and meetings.
Norm is a commercial pilot, loves flying and has flown since 1973. He enjoys making use of his small seaplane to visit constituents in the huge Parry Sound-Muskoka riding. Norm loves nature and the outdoors and enjoys cross-country skiing, hiking, scuba diving, fishing and golf.
Norm is a past President of Muskoka Tourism, past Director and Treasurer of Resorts Ontario and is a strong advocate for economic growth and tourism in the Parry Sound-Muskoka area. He has been actively involved with minor hockey, as a coach and trainer.
Norm is very proud of his four children - Abigale, Renee, Stuart and Winston - who are busy with school, sports and music. They all work around the lodge, when not in school.
