InfoMy name is Sean Curran and I am a candidate for State Representative in Springfields Ninth Hampden District. I am an attorney, a real estate agent, and a former correctional officer. I am not a career politician, I dont have a political machine, and I dont come from a political family; I come from a strong union family- and I am proud to say it.

Growing up in a union household, I know very well that strong unions are the difference between a secure job and unemployment. I also know that our right to health care coverage, a prevailing wage, and a secure retirement are all weakened when our Republican Governor tries to strip us of our collective bargaining rights, and they are further weakened when a few members of my own Democratic party fail to stand up and voice their opposition. Its time for this to change- send me to the Statehouse and it will.

Friends, the City of Springfield is essentially bankrupt. But beyond our financial collapse, I feel that we are also suffering from a bankruptcy of leadership. We arrived at this point by continually electing politicians who have undertaken unsound and unfit fiscal practices. And we arrived at this point because there has been a of a lack of accountability in this city over the last four years. Its time for positive change.

Politicians who pass bad budgets hurt good people. Springfields unions are going to be hurt when businesses overlook our city for other towns which are able to run their finances according to sound principals of government. Together we can change this.

Over the next few weeks the citizens of Springfield are going to have a clear cut choice. Continue with the politics of past and elect the political leaders who placed our city and its unions in the weakest position they have ever been in the last 50 years or move forward with a fresh voice who will bring new energy, ideas, enthusiasm and the political courage to take a stand for City of Springfield and its labor unions. I believe that together we can bring common sense ideas and solutions to this community, city, and Commonwealth. Therefore, I would humbly ask for your support in September.
