A lifelong resident of Indiana, Murray met his wife, Janet, at Indiana University in Indianapolis, while he was studying law and Janet was training to be a children's dentist. They have been married for seventeen years and have four children ages 15, 13, 9 and 6.

Murray is active in his church and community. He works as a partner in his law firm, Clark, Quinn, Moses & Clark, and helps run a small business. He gives of his time to charities like the Children's Bureau Foundation and St. Elizabeth's home.

Murray is also a public servant, a State Senator representing Marion and Hamilton counties since 1994. Murray has had a long career in public service, having served as a volunteer, precinct committeeman, ward chairman and treasurer of the Marion County GOP. Murray was the Lieutenant Governor candidate in 2000.
