InfoRod Thompson was born in Athens, GA. As a child of the 1980s, Rod spent his formidable teen years watching his parents fight to keep their heads above the poverty level, in the aftermath of divorce and economic downfall. Learning the importance of self-improvement and personal motivation, in 1999, Rod enlisted in the United States Navy, serving for almost twenty-three years on Active Duty, to include ten combatant deployments around the globe, for a combined total of more than six years abroad in defense of the United States.

In 2003, Rod was onboard USS Constellation where he felt the roar of jets launching in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, beginning the war in Iraq. Rod was later deployed in Talil, Iraq in 2006, where he conducted surveillance, intelligence gathering and troop support operations, playing a vital role in US troops pushing back the rising insurgency.

Rod attended Saint Leo University and graduated in 2011 with an associate degree before returning to the sea aboard USS Forrest Sherman. While onboard, he led a division of twenty operations personnel as they maintained a tense presence against Syrian aggression in the Levant region of the Eastern Mediterranean, providing surface combat support for Ballistic Missile Defense assets.

Rod continued his education at Regent University, before being called back into the defense of the nation, this time onboard USS Harry S. Truman, where he was responsible for the tactical employment of nine combat-ready guided missile assets, serving under Commander, Destroyer Squadron Two-Eight. Spearheading two separate areas of responsibility, Rod was pivotal in the mission to interrupt the Russian Navy’s expanse in the Eastern Mediterranean, followed by a mission north, to the Arctic circle, where the Truman Strike Group bolstered American sea-power outside of Russian territorial waters.

Rod is the co-author of the award-winning, bestselling morality-based book series “The Adventures of Connor the Courageous Cutter” as well as a ghostwriter of Duane Cotton’s motivational and inspirational autobiography “Driven: Finding Myself on the Road to Success.”

In July 2022, Rod retired from the United States Navy as a highly decorated Chief Operations Specialist with Intelligence Warfare, Surface Warfare and Air Warfare Specialist qualifications.

Rod is a lifelong conservative who continues to remain active in his community, coaching baseball and supporting his church through various positions, including President of the United Methodist Men’s ministry. He lives in Suffolk with his superhero of a wife of twenty-two years and their three sons.
