InfoTerrence has a passion for service. An activist in the Varina community for more than 20 years, he works tirelessly for the betterment of others. He understands the issues important to the community, including education, challenges facing working families, and the environment.

Ensuring access to quality education is a key focus for Terrence. He has decades of experience working in support of Henrico County Public Schools and first-generation college students. Terrence and his wife, Tracy, joined the parent-teacher association at their son's elementary school, even before their son was old enough to attend the school, to ensure that he obtained a quality public education. Over the years, Terrence has served on the PTA at their son's elementary, middle, and high school and is the previous Varina representative on the Henrico County Council PTA. In 2022, Terrence was honored by the Henrico PTA Council and the elected school board member for the Varina district for his leadership, civic engagement, and support of schools and educators.

Terrence understands firsthand the challenges working families face every day. Unfortunately in 2019 Terrence and his family faced heartbreaking loss with the passing of his wife Tracy after a 6-year battle with advanced-stage cancer. After Tracy's death, Terrence advocated for paid family leave and spoke at the Virginia General Assembly to ask state lawmakers to consider passing paid family leave legislation. Terrence knows from personal experience the impact that a health crisis can have on a household.

Because of his concern about environmental issues, Terrence has worked with community activists to address pollution and public health issues created by a local landfill. He petitioned the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) to hold the landfill accountable for multiple environmental violations.

Terrence is a native Philadelphian and grew up in a section of the city that was known as the "Badlands" because of poverty, crime, and limited economic opportunities. With love and support from his family, friends, and his single mother, Terrence became one of the first in his family to earn a B.A. from the University of Maryland College Park for political science and a Master's degree from Howard University School of Divinity in Washington, DC.

Twenty years ago, Terrence moved to Henrico County to marry Tracy, an event that took place in the living room of their home in the Varina magisterial district. Terrence has spent over 16 years working in the community on a variety of community service projects: supporting the children of incarcerated parents through a holiday program, providing technology to child development centers, sponsoring health fairs in local barbershops to address health disparities among black men, addressing police-community issues, and serving on numerous non-profit boards. Today he works as a Mental Health Administrator for a local university where he provides administrative support to licensed clinical staff and students that are in training to become mental health providers.

In those rare times you don’t find Terrence active in the community or with his son, you’ll find him enjoying some time outdoors on the Virginia Capital Trail.

Terrence currently serves as a political appointee on the Henrico County Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission (PRAC) as a Varina representative. He has enjoyed speaking to local media about the mental and physical health benefits of green space and the Virginia Capital Trail. Terrence is a member of the Dorey Park Farmers Market Board of Directors and is passionate about reducing food deserts in his local community. He is also the previous At-Large Member of the Henrico National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).

Terrence works as an administrator at a local university in a mental health department where he established a college food pantry for students and established a scholarship for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) students. His support for students comes from his own experience as a first-generation college student. In 2015, Terrence received the Governor’s Public Service Award for establishing the college’s food pantry. Over the years, Terrence has spoken and lectured extensively to numerous groups and media outlets on the issue of food insecurity among college students and how food insecurity undermines student academic achievement and graduation rates. He is also actively involved with making sure all in the community have access to food through his work as a Food Bank Coordinator.

Terrence is the current Vice Chair of the Henrico County Democratic Committee. For over a decade, he has canvassed for many elected officials and worked at the precinct level to help elect Democrats to national, state, and local officials. In 2019, Terrence served as an Alternative Delegate at the Democratic National Convention.

Terrence is running to represent the new 81st Virginia House District that covers Varina, Charles City, and parts of Chesterfield.

In the General Assembly, Terrence will continue to advocate for working families. He knows from personal experience the hopes and concerns that families have about the economy, education, and the environment. As a Delegate, Terrence will be responsive to community concerns and will promote legislation that benefits the citizens of the 81st House District.
