Info While growing up in the small town of Baxter Springs, Tim Shallenburger quickly learned the meaning of Kansas values and faith. The son of an electrician, Tim was raised in a home that celebrated both God and family.

First elected to the Kansas House of Representatives in 1986, Tim earned the reputation of being a fighter for Kansas farmers, small businessmen, and the average working man and woman. His dedication to making government more accountable to the people, resulted in his appointment to the chairmanship of a Sub-Committee on Governmental Ethics. It was while serving under this capacity, that Tim concluded that LEADERSHIP is needed in government in order to reverse an ever growing moral decline in our country.

In 1994, Tim's colleagues in the Legislature elected him Speaker of the House. Tim exhibited a leadership high on moral values and ran a House chamber that allowed democracy to operate without interference. It was during his term as Speaker, when the legislature passed four consecutive years of tax cuts, including the largest tax cut in the history of our state. This was just another example of his belief in government eliminating waste and giving back to the people.

In 1998, the citizens of Kansas elected Tim State Treasurer. As Treasurer, he has continued his quest to provide leadership in government that Kansans can be proud of. He has returned record breaking amounts of unclaimed property to Kansans. He oversaw the implementation and currently administers Learning Quest, the state's college education savings plan. He also administers the Kansas Agricultural Production Loan Program, which provides low interest loans to farmers. All examples of improving the everyday lives of Kansans.

Tim attended Pittsburg State University and later, Coffeyville Community College. Tim and his wife, Linda reside in Topeka. They are the parents of a daughter, Candice.
