InfoElected in October 2003, John Milloy has quickly become a strong voice and advocate for the riding of Kitchener Centre and the Region of Waterloo. Shortly after his election, John was appointed Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs and was later named chair of the Federal Interprovincial Municipal Relations committee and member of the Estimates and Public Accounts Committees.

Since becoming MPP, John has been a strong advocate for a number of local issues, including education and health care. He is particularly proud of the recent provincial decision to establish a Heath Sciences campus in downtown Kitchener, which includes the province’s second school of pharmacy and a satellite medical school.

John's political interest began at the age of 13 as a Queen's Park page where he quickly became fascinated with the political process of the legislature. After graduating from university, John returned to the provincial legislature as the special assistant to an Ottawa-Rideau MPP.

He has also been the special assistant to the Honourable John Manley from 1994–1996, legislative assistant to the Honourable Stephane Dion from 1996-1997, and finally as legislative assistant to Prime Minister Jean Chretien from 1997 to 2002.

In the fall of 2002 John joined the Centre for International Governance Innovation in Waterloo as the director of public affairs, serving in this capacity until the October 2nd provincial election.

John completed his post secondary degree at Carleton University. He continued his education at the London School of Economics and received his doctorate in Modern History from the University of Oxford. His first book, “The North Atlantic Treaty Association 1948-1957: Community or Alliance?” is forthcoming later this year from McGill-Queen’s University Press.

Married to local physician, Dr. Sara Pendergast, John and Sara live in the Stanley Park area and recently welcomed their first child, John Patrick.
