InfoSharon assumed the leadership of the Liberal Party of Prince Edward Island in November of 2022.

Over the course of her career, Sharon worked in a variety of provincial leadership roles that provide front-line services to Islanders across a range of settings.

As a public servant, Sharon worked from 2007-2018 at the Deputy Minister level, leading multiple departments, including; Social Services, Seniors and Labor, Workforce and Advanced Learning, and Executive Council. During that time, she designed and implemented significant changes that benefited Islanders, including a focus on addressing poverty on Prince Edward Island and the delicate linkage to economic and social health. In 2018, UPEI offered Sharon the opportunity to work as Director of Academics and Research Operations for the office of the Vice President of Academics and Research.

As CEO of the Workers Compensation Board (WCB), Sharon helped to reduce premiums for employers, and increase services to injured workers while improving the financial operations of the Board. At the same time, she initiated significant changes, which resulted in the WCB being recognized as one of the top 25 employers in Atlantic Canada.

Sharon’s expertise and experience also extend to the education system and the important role of supporting students and young Islanders. Prior to being recruited as a Deputy Minister, Sharon served as a Principal and Vice-Principal at Stonepark Junior High School from 2001-2007 and as a Vice Principal at Tracadie Consolidated from 1999-2001. Before serving as a school administrator, Sharon spent over a decade working with youth as a counsellor, both in the public school system and with the PEI Health Agency.

On a volunteer basis, Sharon is deeply committed to her community and has worked with a number of groups, including; Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Crimestoppers, the Canadian Mental Health Association, and the PEI United Way. Most recently, she has been active with the Charlottetown Meals on Wheels program. In fact, she played a leadership role in strengthening the food service delivery role of this program by establishing a provincial Meals on Wheels Association. Sharon was elected as the first Chair of the Provincial Meals on Wheels Association in March 2022.

Sharon holds a Master’s Degree in educational psychology and two bachelor’s degrees from Dalhousie University. Sharon lives in Cornwall with her husband. When she is not working or volunteering, Sharon enjoys yoga, cycling and entertaining Islanders by playing music in a band.
