InfoSenator David J. Valesky is currently Vice President Pro Tempore of the Senate, making him an ex-officio on every Standing Committee in the New York State Senate and the highest ranking Upstate legislator in the Chamber. As such, Senator Valesky has been and will continue to be a voice for Upstate New York in the highest levels of state government, focusing on issues of importance to his constituents and to all of New York’s citizens, including jobs and economic development; education and health care; transportation and tourism; energy production and efforts to reduce the tax burden on individuals and businesses alike.

In addition to serving as an ex-officio on every committee, Sen. Valesky is a member of the standing Committees on Finance, Rules, Transportation, Agriculture, Energy & Telecommunications, Health, Local Government, and Cultural Affairs & Tourism. Senator Valesky also serves as the Chair of the Senate’s Temporary Committee on Rules and Administration Reform.

Sen. Valesky was first elected to the New York State Senate in November 2004. He was born and raised in Oneida, and his Bachelor’s degree from SUNY Potsdam and his Master’s degree from the University of Connecticut. As the son and husband of public school teachers and the father of public school students, Senator Valesky strongly supports a quality public education system that provides every child with an opportunity to succeed.

Senator Valesky has been serving his community throughout his professional career. He began his public service by working in the State Assembly as an aide to former State Assembly Majority Leader Michael Bragman, from 1989 to 1995. While in this position, he gained a thorough working knowledge of the legislative process and helped to develop state and local policies to make government more accessible to New Yorkers.

After leaving Majority Leader Bragman’s office, Senator Valesky dedicated his efforts to the education and enrichment of the lives of Central New Yorkers through his work in public television and radio as Vice President of Communications at WCNY-TV/FM from 1995 through 2004. While there he served as the host of the midday talk show Hour CNY, which focused on current state, national and world events and issues which affect Central New York communities.

Senator Valesky’s top priority remains to serve the people of Central New York by providing the highest quality constituent service. During his time in office Senator Valesky has been repeatedly named to the Farm Bureau "Circle of Friends", and honored for Arts Leadership by the Central New York Community Arts Council. He also remains active in the daily issues that are critical to the families of Upstate New York and the 49th Senate District.

Senator Valesky lives in the Madison County city of Oneida with his wife Julie and their three sons – Brian, Nathan, and Steven.
