Info | Glenn Hegar was born on November 25, 1970 in Houston, Texas. As a 6th generation Texan, Glenn earns a living farming rice and corn on land that has been in his family since the mid 1800s. Glenn is married to Dara Grisbee Hegar. The Hegars reside in Katy, Texas and attend Katy Memorial Lutheran Church.
Glenn Hegar was elected to his first term in the Texas Legislature in November 2002. He serves District 28 which includes Wharton, Waller, and Fort Bend Counties. Representative Hegar is Vice Chairman of the Committee on Local Government Ways and Means, and the Vice Chairman of the Committee on Law Enforcement. He also serves as a member of the Agriculture Policy Board and the Select Committee on Sex Offender Statutes.
In the 78th Legislative Session, Representative Hegar authored House Bill 552, which authorizes a school district to expel students for offenses committed on another districts� property. HB 552 was recognized by both the Dallas Morning News and the Fort Worth Star Telegram as one of the top 20 winning bills of the 78th legislative session. Glenn�s leadership has earned him the prestigious Legislative Excellence Award from the Texas Municipal Police Association; the Cattleman�s Council Award from the Independent Cattleman�s Association of Texas; the Perfectly Pro-Life Award from the Texas Right to Life; Texas Association of Business' Fighter for Free Enterprise Award; and the Justice of Peace and Constables Association of Texas' Legislator of the Year Award.
Representative Hegar is a member of the Veterans and Military Affairs Coalition, the Rural Legislative Caucus; the Republican Legislative Caucus, and many Chambers of Commerce throughout District 28. He currently serves as a board member for the Katy Area Performing Arts Society and a member of the U.S. Rice Federation�s Latin American Policy Committee.
Representative Hegar received a B.A. from Texas A&M University, his M.A. and J.D. from St Mary�s University, and L.L.M. in Agricultural Law from the University of Arkansas.
