Info | Craig Eiland was born in 1962 to a family of small business, farmers and ranchers in Stanton, Texas. Graduating in 1984 with a B.B.A. in Business Administration, he also lettered in football while at Baylor University. In 1987, he received his J.D. from the Baylor School of Law.
A Democrat, Eiland was elected to serve in the 74th legislature, his first public office. He served on the Business and Industry Committee as well as the State, Federal and International Relations Committee in 1995. During the 75th legislative session, Eiland was honored with service on the Appropriations and Insurance Committees. This year, in the 1999 76th Legislature, Eiland was again honored with the duty of a seconding speech on behalf of the nomination of Speaker James E. �Pete� Laney, who was elected to his fourth session as speaker. Also during the 76th Session, Eiland received a new leadership role within the legislature by retaining his position on the Appropriations Committee and receiving the prestigious honor of Vice-Chairman of the Insurance Committee.
Craig Eiland has been recognized by local and statewide entities for his legislative efforts. In 1999, he was honored with several achievements including "Young Lawyer of the Year" for the Baylor School of Law, the Texas Medical Association's "Friend of Medicine" Award and was recognized by Texas Monthly for "Career Year" of the 1999 legislative session. In 1998, he was named Chair of the Natural Disaster Committee at the National Conference on Insurance Legislators(NCOIL). Other achievements of 1998 include his being awarded legislator of the year from NAMI Texas when nominated by the local chapter, Gulf Coast Alliance for the Mentally Ill. Eiland was also recommended by the Speaker of the House, Pete Laney, and served in The Leadership Institute Class of 1997 with the National Conference of State Legislatures. He has been given the honor of Hospitality Hero by The Hotel-Motel Association as well as the President�s Award by the Texas Public Health Association. He has also been recognized by the Texas Association of Builders, Texas Monthly, and the Boys and Girls Club.
Eiland and his wife Melissa have a daughter, Blake and son, Tucker. They live on the West end of Galveston Island with their lab, Ace, and are members of Moody Memorial First United Methodist Church in Galveston.
