InfoLiz Sandals was elected to represent the Guelph-Wellington riding in October 2003.

Premier McGuinty appointed Liz as Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Education in September 2006. Prior to that, she served as Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Government Services and Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services. Liz leads the government’s Safe Schools Action Team. She also serves on the Standing Committee on Public Accounts and is the Vice-Chair of the Education Policy Committee of Cabinet.

Liz first became involved in politics through education issues as she was elected to the local public school board in 1988 and was re-elected four times. She served as chair of the board and was elected as President of the Ontario Public School Boards' Association (OPSBA) from 1998 to 2002. She also sat on the Board of Directors of the Canadian School Boards Association.

In recognition of her work as OPSBA President, Liz was selected as the first recipient of the "Outstanding Contribution to Education Award" by the Ontario Principals' Council.

Liz’s career began as a computer programmer/analyst at the University of Guelph. After her husband, David, graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College, the two moved to Vegreville, Alberta, where Liz taught at the School for the Developmentally Delayed. Following the births of their children, Richard and Allison, Liz returned to the University of Guelph to teach Computer Science.

Liz grew up in Guelph and received a Bachelor of Science from the University of Guelph and a Master of Mathematics from the University of Waterloo.
