InfoRepresentative Bryan Hughes (Mineola) was elected to the Texas House of Representatives in November 2002 to represent District 5, consisting of Camp, Harrison, Upshur, and Wood counties. Hughes serves on the Economic Development, Judicial Affairs, and the Rules & Resolutions Committees. Hughes also serves as Vice Chairman of the Rural Caucus, an organization of legislative leaders dedicated to preserving rural Texas by finding positive solutions to the unique problems facing rural communities.

Bryan Hughes has gained a reputation as a hard working legislator who is committed to understanding the issues and voting true to his district. A native of Wood County, Hughes is a principle-driven legislator and believes Texas has a strong and proud heritage of faith, family, and freedom. He works with his fellow legislators to preserve and encourage these values and ensure that future generations of Texans have even more opportunities than those who have gone before them.

A fifth generation Texan, Representative Hughes was raised in Wood County. He graduated from Mineola High School in 1987 and worked his way through Tyler Junior College and the University of Texas at Tyler. Representative Hughes received his law degree from Baylor University School of Law in 1995. Following Law School, Hughes was chosen by United States District Judge William M. Steger of Tyler to serve as his briefing attorney. After serving two years with Judge Steger, Representative Hughes entered private law practice in Marshall. Hughes now practices law in his hometown of Mineola, where he continues to represent working families and small businesses.

Since 1996, Hughes has served on the Board of Trustees of Stewards Foundation, a Dallas based nonprofit organization that makes loans to churches for building projects and also provides health care assistance for Christian workers. He currently serves on the Health Care Committee. Representative Hughes is also active in his church, Golden Bible Chapel, where he serves as an elder. He is a board member of the Mineola Foundation and a member of the National Rifle Association and the Rotary Club of Mineola.
